Sustainable Couture is a thriving network of textile artists and designers in Alice Springs, who work collaboratively and innovativly, using recycled materials to create distinctive fashion garments, accessories and homewares. Established in 2009, the Sustainable Couture Opening Night Parade and Marketplace is now recognised as a creative event of high standing on the Alice Springs Arts and Culture calendar.
In 2018, Sustainable Couture’s 10th year, there will be an expanded program of activities, called Sustainable Couture Plus.
An exciting element of this will be an Exhibition of recycled art and design – called Lost and Found – at The Residency, from 6 June to 4 July 2018.
The Exhibition will by located adjacent to Sustainable Couture’s pop-up shop in The Residency, showcasing the work of Central Australian artists.
The pieces exhibited in Lost and Found are created from an eclectic myriad of objects and materials that have been repurposed and upcycled. Artists’ own inspirations and interpretations of the main theme are evident throughout; echoed in their choice of materials, mediums and compositions.
Pieces exhibited range from the ‘purely decorative’ to those with more practical uses such as jewelry, garments and furniture. Entry to the Exhibition is free of charge and all pieces are available for sale.
Lost and Found officially launches on Wednesday 6th June at 6pm at the Residency – corner of Parsons and Hartley Streets – all welcome!
“Meet the Artist” gallery sessions will be organised during the exhibition period and artists will to be there to talk with interested visitors.
